It’s been a while since I was blown away by an author let alone completely enthralled by an entire series of books. But BAM!! It’s happened and I have to say, I’m quite smitten with the Pucked Series. And, by the way, Helena Hunting is my latest WC cause what goes on in her mind is so sexy! In what Helena’s books might be missing in plot (they’re really just romance with a lot of funny), each and every story makes up for in snark, angst, wit, and humor. Also, I must gush over her dialogue. She writes it so fucking well. Seriously. Her characters and their conversations make me want to not only know them all personally but also make Alex, Violet, Miller and Sunny Sunshine my friends. Because I read both Pucked and Pucked Up back-to-back (but in opposite order…yes, I know I’m ridiculous), I decided to chat about them together…although I wish Pucked UP would have followed the same format as Pucked. I’ll explain. But first the deets…
With a famous NHL player for a stepbrother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation of many a hockey star. So of course she isn’t interested in legendary team captain Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. When Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes much more than just a hot body with the face to match.
Suffering from a complete lapse in judgment, Violet discovers just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. Violet believes her night of orgasmic magic with Alex is just that: one night. But Alex starts to call. And text. And email and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts. Suddenly, he’s too difficult to ignore, and nearly impossible not to like.
The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.

First, We’re introduced to Violet. Hmm. How to describe Violet…Violet is fucking hilarious. She’s a tell-it-like-it-is kinda gal that has very strong convictions about how horrible romantic relationships are with hockey players. Because her ex is a semi-pro player, let’s just say that she has a bad taste in her mouth *wink* when it comes to men on skates. Oh, also, her stepbrother Buck (AKA Miller Butterson) is a pro hockey player so it would seem that Vi is destined for some something pucking great!
My stepbrother is such a whore. I’m tempted to apply this label to all professional hockey players.
Then, we’re introduced to Alex Waters. Alex is a pro that just so happens to be Captain of the Hawks (Chicago hockey team) and a teammate of Buck’s—not ideal for him when he becomes interested in Violet.
Vibrant hazel eyes—the color of moss cut with a shot of bourbon—meet mine. It’s only for a second and then he’s gone again.
So how does this epic whirlwind romance begin you ask? I’ll tell you. It all starts with Violet and Alex engaging in the most epic eye fuck sesh of all time during a game that she unenthusiastically attends with her family in support of Buck. After the Hawks win the match, Violet and her family attend the post-game celebration at a bar the Hawks frequent. This is where things get really good…
But this is also where I want to stop before I give away too much of the story. What I can tell you is that Alex and Violet’s love is a love to aspire to. And their sex is super hot. I mean HAWT!
Disclaimer: I actually read Pucked after I read Pucked UP and I wasn’t sure I would like Violet and Alex. They seem like total assholes in Pucked Up…just as Buck (Miller) seems like a total asshole in Pucked. And guess what? I f-ing love them ALL now…so thank you Helena. Thank you.
Now onto my review of Pucked Up→
Miller “Buck” Butterson has been banging his way through life ever since a puck to the face fixed his messed up front teeth, and he was drafted into the NHL during his first year of college. After five years of deflecting goals on the ice and scoring them with puck bunnies across the Continental US and parts of Canada, Miller is ready for a girlfriend. A real girlfriend of the non-bunny variety. One he takes on dates and doesn’t jump into bed with after five seconds of conversation.
Miller thinks he’s found that woman in his teammate’s sister. Except, unlike Alex Waters, center, team captain and all round nice guy—who happens to be dating his step-sister—Miller’s manwhore reputation is well earned, and not blown out of proportion by the media. Beyond that minor detail, Miller doesn’t know the first thing about having a girlfriend. But he’s determined to make it happen.
What he doesn’t take into account is the amount of time and effort relationships require, or that constantly letting bunnies take selfies with him to post all over social media isn’t going to win him any points in the boyfriend department. Miller learns—not so quickly—that if he wants to make Sunshine “Sunny” Waters fall for him, he going to have to do a whole lot more than show her his stick skills in the bedroom.

Pucked Up is, technically was (published in 2015), the highly anticipated sequel to Hunting’s Pucked. But, although this book is #2 in a now 3 book series, I read this one first. This book is written solely written in Buck’s (aka Miller or Butterson) POV and I loved it. And I must say, I fully embraced the Yeti—Violet’s nickname for her stepbrother—right away! CAUSE HE’S JUST THAT LOVABLE!
Alright! So the deets…
Pucked Up (PU) is a seriously funny, cute, hot, and best of all a very sweet love story between Miller and Sunny (aka Sunshine).
The shooters were a bad idea. There were too many. I might have paid for them.
Because I read PU first, I really enjoyed the format when I read it. Being inside Miller’s head was a trip! But after reading Pucked, I really wish that Helena would have written Pucked Up like she wrote Pucked. I want to know more about Sunny and what Sunny thinks. I want inside Sunny’s head.
Over all, I give Pucked and Pucked Up 5 BANGS because I was thoroughly entertained the entire time I was reading them. I love books that allow me to mentally depart from my life and these books are definitely a departure. Also, the hints dropped in Pucked Up lead to a Randy/Lily ( AKA Landy!!) story (Now the third book in the series—out in a week—Pucked Over!) Read these books. Read this series. I promise you will pucking love it!
You weren’t alone. I’m just as much to blame. It was fun at the time. Nature makes me horny.
Have you read Pucked or Pucked Up? Did you love it/them? Let me know below!!
