Review: Felony Ever After by Helena Hunting a Domino Anthology

* I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of the review.

Oh Helena! I just don’t know how to quit you. And when I found out that you were writing a Domino Anthology  with 12 other authors (many that I love) I burst into flames. Seriously!! Whooosh!

***A Domino Anthology: 13 Authors ONE story***

Verity Michaels is new to New York City, but even she knows riding in a stolen cab is not a normal way to meet someone. Damn it if that tattoo-covered would-be felon isn’t everywhere now, and lighting everything on fire under her skirt.

His name is Hudson Fenn, and he’s frustratingly impossible to pin down. He works as a bike messenger, but has the manners of a prince—along with a strange tendency toward breaking and entering. As much as Verity knows he’s not her type, and likely to land her in jail, she can’t help but find her truest self when they’re together.

Can she be brave enough to give Hudson a real chance? Will he be bold enough to reveal the man beneath the ink, or will his secrecy doom their connection? Also, WTF is the deal with Verity’s boss? No less than thirteen of your favorite romance writers have teamed up to tell this sexy, wacky, snort-inducing tale. With them you’ll visit the world’s most irritating office, a VIP room of questionable cleanliness, and the fanciest apartment a bike messenger has ever inhabited, but you’ll still never see this ending coming.

Upon receiving Felony Ever After : Because I already knew that I would love this book, I was no less enthusiastic about reading it. Seriously. When I received the ARC from Nina, I almost crapped my pants!! (Which  would have been a disaster, because I was flying solo in a very public place with none of my children to blame!) So that was me with the book in my grubby book loving claws.

Whilst reading Felony Ever After : Oh. My. Gah! Was this book ever fantastic! First of all, it’s been a long time since I’ve read a book this SWEET. I mean, I may have to go see a dentist tomorrow! 😉 The two main characters, Verity and Hudson, I loved immediately. The way each author played them off of each other was magical. (They way they meet alone, is amazing!) Seriously. The flow, story, and plot was all perfect. At night, when I go to sleep I dream about collaborations like this. I just never knew that it would be a reality.  There were so many instances of me laughing, gasping, and yelling aloud that my hubs finally exhausted himself of worrying for my literary well being.

“Buckle up, baby!” Tattoo calmly drove the cab through the green light, leaving the two men fighting in the center of the street.

” Are you stealing this cab? Right now? With me in it?

Verity is a cool modern girl who tweets (@VerityPics03) candidly hilariously about her personal life and career at SalesExportt.com. She’s a beautiful, snarky, intelligent and wonderfully artistic young woman who’s less than enthusiastic about her current job and weirdo boss—who’s a mystery box recipient/wack-a-doo!

On one very eventful night, after staying late at work, Verity meets Tattoo (aka Hudson) and soon finds herself in a very precarious situation…lusting after a man that is NOT her usual type.  And after a little hard convincing, Hudson finally gets his Honeybee (aka Verity) to go out on a date with him. Things only get stranger and more awesome from there.

Verity Michaels @VerityPics03 Strangest first date ever. #SmoothCriminal #KissMeAgain #WhyPussyfeathers

Hudson Fenn @tatwhiteknight When someone says FIRST date, that means they want more. #IWantMore #Honeybee #BecauseILikeToMakeHerSmile

After finishing Felony Ever After: I sat in awe with a goofy shit-eating grin on my face for about an hour. Seriously, I loved this book from start to finish. It was so modern and fresh.  Each author fucking brought the thunder to make this one of the most unforgettable love stories of the year. The plot was great. The sex was hot. And the characters—unforgettable. No lie, I will be daydreaming about Honeybee and Tattoo for a while.

Review and Playlist : Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole

Music inspires me as it does so many other people in this big crazy world. Many times, when I read about my author crushes it notes that they listened to a particular artist or album while writing. Well, because I fucking love books and music, I’ve decided to start adding playlists to my reviews (and who knows, maybe I’ll just make playlist reviews. I know. It’s crazy. I could do anything, right?!?). If you’re currently an 8tracks user, then you already know how freaking awesome this site/app is. If you aren’t, check it out. Promise you’ll find something you like.

BACK TO THE REVIEW…

So, Sweet Ruin was actually the first book I’d ever read of Kresley’s…

And I instantly fell in love with her writing and characters. Because I’d never read any of the Immortals After Dark stories, before Sweet Ruin, I didn’t know what to expect. And WOW. Was I surprised. Now that I’ve read a handful of them, I think her style could best be summarized as supernatural romance with teeth!

Sweet Ruin#4

An immortal assassin is caught between desire and duty…

A foundling raised in a world of humans

Growing up, orphaned Josephine didn’t know who or what she was—just that she was “bad,” an outcast with strange powers. Her baby brother Thaddeus was as perfect as she was flawed; protecting him became her entire life. The day he was taken away began Jo’s transition from angry girl… to would-be superhero… to enchanting, ruthless villain.

A lethally sensual enforcer on a mission

A threat to the Møriør has brought archer Rune the Baneblood to the mortal realm to slay the oldest living Valkyrie. Whether by bow or in bed, he never fails to eliminate his target. Yet before he can strike, he encounters a vampiric creature whose beauty conceals a black heart. With one bite, she pierces him with aching pleasure, taking his forbidden blood – and jeopardizing the secrets of his brethren.

A boundless passion that will lead to sweet ruin…

Could this exquisite female be a spy sent by the very Valkyrie he hunts? Rune knows he must not trust Josephine, yet he’s unable to turn her away. Despite his millennia of sexual conquests, he can’t ignore the unfamiliar longing she arouses deep within him. When Jo betrays the identity of the one man she will die to protect, she and Rune become locked in a treacherous battle of wills that pits ultimate loyalty against unbridled lust.

This book is hot. I mean, 💥HAWT!!💥 And in typical romance fashion, the sexual plot progresses rather fast. There’s lots of BANGING. LOTS. Thank you Kresley. Nobody writes sex scenes like you do.

First we’re introduced to an orphaned adolescent Joe (short for Josephine cause she’s way to street to go around dropping the name Josephine) who carries her equally orphaned baby brother, Thad, around in a backpack she’s modified with leg holes.

Then something life-changing happens to Joe, and she finds herself somewhere…strange and unearthly—without Thaddie. While adjusting to her new life, we’re introduced to Rune Darklight.

Sweet Ruin #2jpg

Rune is a Bane Blood ( which means poison blood) Møriør (—an alliance of otherworldly beings that have seized control of most planes of existence, led by Orion the Undoing). He’s a Dark Fey (a halfling born of a fey and a demon) aka Baneblood (beings with black poisonous blood) who’s a serious man-whore. He and his fellow Møriør are headed toward Gaia (earth) for good reason: an Accession (a kind of mystical checks-and-balances system for an ever-growing population of immortals that occurs every five hundred years. Or right now…). After awakening his comrades from a 500 year sleep, Rune sets forth on another mission: to find and kill Nix (Phoenix) a Primordial (the firstborn—or the oldest generation—of a species) clairvoyant Valkyrie (female immortals that take sustenance from the electrical energy of the earth, sharing it in one collective power, and give it back with their emotions in the form of lightning. They possess preternatural strength and speed and without training they can be mesmerized by shining objects and jewels) who is sentenced with plotting to overthrow the Møriør amidst the Accession.

Now, Rune isn’t your average assassin. He’s an amazingly accomplished archer that prefers to the fuck information out of people. Yes. That’s right he sucks Nymphs’ tits for tips. He lays pipe for enlightenment. And whilst bang-bargaining some extra moany Nymphs in a private New Orleans courtyard, Rune senses something “familiar” yet completely alien to him…Josephine.

“Meadowberries mixed with warm rain. Another female was nearby—and, gods almighty, her sweet scent was mouthwatering.”

And this is where I stop giving you deets and tell you to read this book. It’s so good. And if you are familiar with Kresley’s writing, or even if you aren’t, you won’t be disappointed.

Sweet Ruin sucked me in, in the best way. My thoughts were consumed with the characters and the story for days after I read it.

Review: The Queen (book 8 of the Original Sinners Series) by Tiffany Riesz

When the literary orgy of a beloved erotica series is over, what’s a kink loving BDSM bookworm to do? Worship at the author’s feet. That’s what.

Forgive me Father, for I love—ok STOP! I have to admit, I’m no Catholic. In fact, I’m not much of anything when it comes to religion. But there’s one form of worship I do practice: Always respect a Master. And I have to say, Tiffany Reisz is a literary Master, or should I say Mistress, of epic proportions. Were she here in front of me, I would kneel at her feet. Reisz’s final addition to the Original Sinners series, The Queen, the 8th book of the series and the 4th book of The White Years, is a masterpiece. A MASTERPIECE I TELL YOU!

As many of you already know, there’s not much in this world that I love more than an amazingly kinky erotic departure from reality. For me, the perfect erotic story needs to stimulate EVERYTHING—my intellect, my imagination, and most of all my body.

Perhaps that’s why each book of Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners Series speaks to me so poignantly whilst I’m reading and, then, echos within me after I’ve finished. Her motley crew of #Sinners, that I’ve grown to love so much, all provide the perfect amount of ZING needed for the wild marathon of fun, fighting, and fucking these stories so satisfyingly deliver.

As I’ve written before, in my review of The Prince,

“Never have I been as enamoured with fictional characters as I am with the characters in Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners Series. Seriously. I’m borderline obsessed. I’ve read each one at least twice and each time I read them I fall deeper in love with Reisz’s writing. She truly knows how to write people, relationships, and kink.”

So when a series that I love comes to a beautiful perfect end, in a single book, all that’s left to do is gush—in the only way I know how—with words and pics!

IMG_3104

The Queen starts with a union that I couldn’t be happier about **Griffin and Michael are getting married!** Did I mention that I couldn’t be happier.  And of course Griffin is ridiculous in the best way—it’s his day after all—and Michael even surprises with his need and willingness to publicly please and openly adore his Dom and husband. *You’ll get nothing more out of me on the subject. Read the book.*

Throughout this magnificent story, Tiffany expertly weaves all of my favorite character’s (FYI: that would be ALL of them) lives, drama, and past /present experiences together effortlessly:

In closing, all I can say is DAMN! I loved every word of this book. The Queen was the perfect closing number—beautifully played by the most EPIC symphony of erotica characters of all time. Mrs. Reisz, you have topped Mrs. Rice and are now head Dom of the genre. Well done Maîtresse. Well done.

And in case you missed it before, here’s The Queen  #BookTrailer colaboration I did with Collector of Book Boyfriends and Girlfriends !

I HAVE QUESTIONS: Have you read The Queen? What did you think?

Review: Tears of Tess, Monsters In the Dark Series: By Pepper Winters

I’m going to start by saying this was not what I was expecting. Because I’ve already read one of Peppers’ series, I knew that she would throw in some dark twist(s). But this book…was seriously fucking twisted. I like unexpected elements and plot progression but this story  really threw me for a loop. Pepper Winter’s Monster in the Dark Series starts with Tears of Tess. Quintessentially Q comes next, and then Twisted Together is last one in the trilogy.

Alright! I’m going to get into this soooooo…

SPOILER ALERT!!!*******IF YOU HAVEN’T READ TEARS OF TESS THEN STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOIN’ CAUSE I’M ABOUT TO RUIN…THE BOOK FOR YOU! OR KEEP READING! BUT YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.

First, we readers are introduced to Tess. Tess is just an Aussie girl, living in a vanilla world looking for kink-train to an-y-where. It’s funny how many of these types of stories I’m finding myself into lately.  No seriously, Tess is a closet freak with a NICE guy (Brax) as a boyfriend and needless to say there are NO fireworks in the bedroom—for her. There havent’ been for 2 years.

In a strong effort to spice up her sex life, while vacationing with said boyfriend in Mexico, Tess decides to go all out on Brax with some hot lingerie and sex toys. Unfortunately Mr. Vanilla shuts her down and makes her feel extremely self-conscious about her singular wants and desires.

“His face was unreadable as he murmured, “You want more?”
More. Such a dangerous word.
I shook my head. “Not more. Different.”
Pain flashed in his eyes before disappearing just as quickly.
“Not all the time. Only, sometimes…”
His hand shook as he reached for the vibrator. “You use this?” His finger hovered over the sliding power button. I couldn’t swallow—mortification closed my throat.
Sure, Tess, showing him your vibrator will be sexy and fun. I wanted to slap myself, but stood completely still, horrified by what he might say. I’d flayed myself open, bared my desires, only to risk ruining Brax’s feelings for me.
I wanted to yell—I’m joking! This isn’t the real me. But my lips glued shut; I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the vibrator in his grip.
Stupid. So stupid.
Brax slid the power switch upward and a battery-powered whir filled the room. I looked away as he pressed the power higher. The phallus sprung to attention, screaming all my secrets.
“Different?” His voice echoed with loss and confusion as he stared at the vibrator. No doubt visualizing me writhing in abandon, using an object to get off instead of him[…]”
[…] All I need is you. Honestly none of that matters. I’m content, so happy when I’m with you,” I whispered.
My chest ached so badly. Could he hear the words we’d used. I was content and he used me as support. No mention of passion or unbridled lust.
It doesn’t matter. Stop being so foolish. That’s for movies, this is real life.”
-Pepper Winters, Tears of Tess, Chapter 2.

This type of first person narration is where Pepper shines. Normally first person annoys the shit outa me, but I truly enjoyed getting to know the characters through their innermost private thoughts in this trilogy.

So at this point of the story we readers get to witness the sacrifice that Tess decides to make for Brax. Tess decides to commit to having borring-ass unfulfilling sex with Brax for the rest of her life just to make him happy. Happiness be damned.
Fast forward to the next day when Tess and Bax decide to go explore the inner webbing of Cancun on a scooter. Ballzy. And then they decide to stop at some random shit-hole cantina to get a drink. This is where the WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING moment, that every good book needs, happens. And then BAM!!! Tess’ world is turned upside down and she finds herself in a hell she’d never imagined.
Jesus Christ. Shit goes down hill for Tess real fast after this. And it gets bad. Real bad—until Q.
IMG_1790-1
I’m not going to go into it too deep, because you need to read this story if you haven’t already, but I’ll throw out a few key words for ya!
  • Abducted
  • Drugged
  • Rape
  • Human Trafficking
  • Bar Code Tatts
  • Hot Slave Owner (obsessed with birds)
  • Kink
  • Lust
  • Fireworks
  • Love

Ok. I think you get the point. I loved this book because it bothered me more than anything I’d read before. And the lead male role (Quincy or Q) is one damaged individual. Sure he’s rich as fuck—makes things easier—and he wants to help people… but he’s very damaged and very vulnerable. And that, to me, makes him very HOT.

IMG_1754-0

If you’ve been tantalized by what you’ve read here, pass it along. If you haven’t read The Monsters In The Dark series yet, START IT! Do it! You’ll fucking love it.

WHAT DID YA THINK? LET ME KNOW BELOW… PLEASE.

Have you read this trilogy? What did you think?

I know. I’m really late to the Pepper Winters party but damn am I glad I CAME. I’ve now devoured all that is currently available from two of her series (Indebted and Monsters In the Dark) and like all insatiably greedy needy bitches I. Want. More. Like NOW! I happened upon the Indebted series by accident but was immediately hooked. I read all 4 books in a day and a half. #greedybitch

And during that day and a half of reading not much else got done. No. Seriously, I threw one of my deadlines to the curb and my client was less than thrilled to get what was commissioned a day late. Whoops. *In my proposal I forgot to mention that if I become obsessed with a book, and said book is part of a series, then everything else in my life goes out the fucking window.*

The first book in the series is titled Indebted#1 Debt Inheritance.

And how it starts—let’s just say that I was a little confused at first. Until around chapter 9 or 10,  I thought Jethro (AKA, Jet…one of the main characters) was a fucking vampire. There’s a lot of talk about COLD demeanor and COLD hands and Jet calling himself a fucking monster/animal  all the time had me convinced he was an incubus.

Example:

“…The devils in society hid with better camouflage…As the years rolled by, and we left our barbaric ways behind, people forgot about the shadows lurking in plain sight. We might live in a civilized world, but rules and laws didn’t apply to me. I was a rule-breaker, curse-maker, life-stealer.”

– Pepper Winters, Indebted (pg.13) e-book

*Not in the mood for a vampire story, I was like ‘what the fuck am I reading?!?’ Imagine my surprise to find out, chapters later, that Jet’s not a creature of the night. He’s just part of an English biker gang that’s involved with the questionably legal dealing of diamonds. WTF right? Don’t know how I didn’t see that one coming!*

As the plot progressed, I soon felt like the story I was reading was a little familiar. It really reminded me of a series I’d read before: Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty Erotica Series.  Yeah-yeah I know that this is my second Anne Rice reference since I started blogging (on my second blog post) but the similarities stood out to me. *Which is ok by me because I fucking loved the Sleeping Beauty Series (SBS)!* And Rice has recently revived the series by adding a new book Beauty’s Kingdom. I haven’t read this one yet, but it’s on my list.*

SPOILER ALERT!!*******IF YOU HAVEN’T READ INDEBTED #1 (DEBT INHERITANCE) or THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY THEN STOP READING THIS NOW!!!

Let me break it down for you:

1st Similarity)  In The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty is awoken, by her prince,  with a kiss — and a cock— *he seriously claims that shit* and taken from her family to become his indentured sex slave. The kinky kingdom from whence he came steals princesses and princes alike AND IT’S ALL JUST ACCEPTED as a ‘that’s the way things are’ kind of thing. Indebted #1 is very much the same. Jethro (Jet) sets out for Milan to claim what’s his—Ms. Weaver (Nila). He’s bound by duty and tradition, just like the peeps of the kinky kingdom in the SBS. Both sides of both worlds, in both books, accept the ‘claiming’ rite as normal.

2nd Similarity) There is punishment. Beautiful glorious punishment. And not just punishment for bad behaviour or past crimes. There is punishment just for the sake of pleasure.

3rd Similarity) Both fucked-up kingdoms (Hawk and Kinky) have this untouchable element. In their worlds, power rules over everything. Now I know that’s frequently an underlying theme in BDSM and/or Romance novels but these deliciously sick fucks are accountable to no one.

4th Similarity) Both dark princes (heirs to the kingdoms) end up caring for their captives way more than they should. And their parents forbid it! Of course it wouldn’t be romance novel without the forbidden love element, but the ‘hunters that fall in love with their prey against their family’s wishes’ theme is so delightfully cliché it’s almost a genre.

Ok, so enough of this spouting off of similarities. I think you get the point. But what I haven’t explained to you is just how fucking addictive this story is. It’s been a long time since I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning scrolling on my e-reader like a fucking word devouring zombie crackhead. I’ve been shit for work all week and, most of all, I’m pissed that I have to wait till August to read the next book. GODDAMN IT! I’m not a patient person so waiting for my Jet-fix is going to suck.

If you ignored my warning and are tantalized by what you’ve read here, read this book—series. Do it. You’ll love every fucking moment.

I have a question:

  •  Have you read this series? What did you think?

Review: The Prince, Original Sinners Series by Tiffany Reisz

The Prince

by Tiffany Reisz, published by Harlequin MIRA (November 20, 2012)

Never have I been as enamoured with fictional characters as I am with the characters in Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners Series. Seriously. I’m borderline obsessed. I’ve read each one at least twice and each time I read them I fall deeper in love with Reisz’s writing. She truly knows how to write people, relationships, and kink.

The first book in the series is The Siren but it wasn’t the first one I read. I started with The Prince. And GODDAMN was I surprised. Never in a million years would I have thought that a book I picked up –for a poolside read–at a grocery store would be so AMAZING.

Now I have to disclose, that this book has a lot of man-on-man action. And I think man-on-man is really hot. A I always have. (this should probably be in The Confessional but…) A hundred years ago, when I was 19 and sleeping with a 30-year-old sex GOD (What can I say? I like older men.), he (Mr.30) was always asking me what turned me. One day, when asked, I confessed “two good-looking guys making out.” Mr. 30 was at first surprised and then totally aroused by my answer. *I was a little surprised I said it too, considering I had never actually witnessed two hot guys going at it before—only seen it in movies and read it in books.*

Wait! Now that I think about it, Anne Rice’s Cry To Heaven was probably the spark that lit that candle for me. *For man on man.* I read Cry To Heaven when I was 13. The two main characters, Tonio and Guido, were together but had female lovers as well. And I was into it. *I probably re-read their first sexual encounter at least 30 times.*

It’s a sound attraction. Right?  Why shouldn’t some men enjoy fucking each other as much as they enjoy fucking some women? Also, none of the other submissives or masochists in any of the books I’ve read have ever compared to Kingsley. He literally has no respect for his own life whilst Søren holds it in his hands. That alone is so dementedly kinky it’s mind-blowing.

I digress. So, back to The Prince.

SPOILER ALERT!!******IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE PRINCE THEN STOP READING THIS NOW!!

This book is hot. Seriously HOT. Never would I have imagined that as a grown-ass woman I would be  fantasizing about two seriously good-looking teenage boys getting it on… like I do with Kingsley and Søren (aka Stearns). Initially I wanted to feel sorry for the young King, but he bears the brunt of Søren’s demons so effortlessly I just can’t.

I mean, HOLY FUCK! Getting fucked in ass the on the ground in the woods, with no lube, would really be hard to walk home from. *Actually, he didn’t walk back to St. Ignatius. He crawled–with a fucking smile on his face.*

The ability to see into Kingsley’s and Søren’s shared past made me feel like I was a member of the 8th Circle. *These two made the book for me. Nora’s great and all. But King’s my man.* Admittedly, the one thing I found hard to stomach, and believe, was Nora running from Søren to Wesley. I mean, what the fuck! I do realize that being Søren’s submissive would probably be pretty intense (because the pain he delivers is so fucking legendary).  But does Nora honestly think little virginal Wes could give her anything she would like need? * Full disclosure: the chapters about Nora and Wesley annoyed the shit out of me more than anything. Sorry. #Kingobsessed* I must say though, all the mysterious threats and the boys’ forbidden love story grabbed and kept my attention. The the transitions from present to past never bothered me. There were, however, some moments while reading this book I was wound so tight I needed release myself. Never in my life have I thought about a fictional man as much as I have of  Kingsley Bousenault (Edge). Jesus!

If you ignored my warning and are tantalized by what I’ve said here, read this book. Do it. You’ll love every fucking word.

I have QUESTIONS. Give me ANSWERS, Please.

Have you read The Prince? What did you think?
