Review: Pucked and Pucked Up by Helena Hunting

It’s been a while since I was blown away by an author let alone completely enthralled by an entire series of books. But BAM!! It’s happened and I have to say, I’m quite smitten with the Pucked Series.  And, by the way, Helena Hunting is my latest WC cause what goes on in her mind is so sexy! In what Helena’s books might be missing in plot (they’re really just romance with a lot of funny), each and every story makes up for in snark, angst, wit, and humor. Also, I must gush over her dialogue. She writes it so fucking well. Seriously. Her characters and their conversations make me want to not only know them all personally but also make Alex, Violet, Miller and Sunny Sunshine my friends. Because I read both Pucked and Pucked Up back-to-back (but in opposite order…yes, I know I’m ridiculous), I decided to chat about them together…although I wish Pucked UP would have followed the same format as Pucked. I’ll explain. But first the deets…

With a famous NHL player for a stepbrother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation of many a hockey star. So of course she isn’t interested in legendary team captain Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. When Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes much more than just a hot body with the face to match.

Suffering from a complete lapse in judgment, Violet discovers just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. Violet believes her night of orgasmic magic with Alex is just that: one night. But Alex starts to call. And text. And email and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts. Suddenly, he’s too difficult to ignore, and nearly impossible not to like.

The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.

First, We’re introduced to Violet. Hmm. How to describe Violet…Violet is fucking hilarious. She’s a tell-it-like-it-is kinda gal that has very strong convictions about how horrible romantic relationships are with hockey players. Because her ex is a semi-pro player, let’s just say that she has a bad taste in her mouth *wink* when it comes to men on skates. Oh, also, her stepbrother Buck (AKA Miller Butterson) is a pro hockey player so it would seem that Vi is destined for some something pucking great!

My stepbrother is such a whore. I’m tempted to apply this label to all professional hockey players.

Then, we’re introduced to Alex Waters. Alex is a pro that just so happens to be Captain of the Hawks (Chicago hockey team) and a teammate of Buck’s—not ideal for him when he becomes interested in Violet.

Vibrant hazel eyes—the color of moss cut with a shot of bourbon—meet mine. It’s only for a second and then he’s gone again.

So how does this epic whirlwind romance begin you ask? I’ll tell you. It all starts with Violet and Alex engaging in the most epic eye fuck sesh of all time during a game that she unenthusiastically attends with her family in support of Buck. After the Hawks win the match, Violet and her family attend the post-game celebration at a bar the Hawks frequent. This is where things get really good…

But this is also where I want to stop before I give away too much of the story. What I can tell you is that Alex and Violet’s love is a love to aspire to. And their sex is super hot. I mean HAWT!

Disclaimer: I actually read Pucked after I read Pucked UP and I wasn’t sure I would like Violet and Alex. They seem like total assholes in Pucked Up…just as Buck (Miller) seems like a total asshole in Pucked. And guess what? I f-ing love them ALL now…so thank you Helena. Thank you.

Now onto my review of Pucked Up

PuckeUpCoverMiller “Buck” Butterson has been banging his way through life ever since a puck to the face fixed his messed up front teeth, and he was drafted into the NHL during his first year of college. After five years of deflecting goals on the ice and scoring them with puck bunnies across the Continental US and parts of Canada, Miller is ready for a girlfriend. A real girlfriend of the non-bunny variety. One he takes on dates and doesn’t jump into bed with after five seconds of conversation.

Miller thinks he’s found that woman in his teammate’s sister. Except, unlike Alex Waters, center, team captain and all round nice guy—who happens to be dating his step-sister—Miller’s manwhore reputation is well earned, and not blown out of proportion by the media. Beyond that minor detail, Miller doesn’t know the first thing about having a girlfriend. But he’s determined to make it happen.

What he doesn’t take into account is the amount of time and effort relationships require, or that constantly letting bunnies take selfies with him to post all over social media isn’t going to win him any points in the boyfriend department. Miller learns—not so quickly—that if he wants to make Sunshine “Sunny” Waters fall for him, he going to have to do a whole lot more than show her his stick skills in the bedroom.

Pucked Up is, technically was (published in 2015), the highly anticipated sequel to Hunting’s Pucked. But, although this book is #2 in a now 3 book series, I read this one first. This book is written solely written in Buck’s (aka Miller or Butterson) POV and I loved it. And I must say, I fully embraced the Yeti—Violet’s nickname for her stepbrother—right away! CAUSE HE’S JUST THAT LOVABLE!

Alright! So the deets…

Pucked Up (PU) is a seriously funny, cute, hot, and best of all a very sweet love story between Miller and Sunny (aka Sunshine).

The shooters were a bad idea. There were too many. I might have paid for them.

Because I read PU first, I really enjoyed the format when I read it. Being inside Miller’s head was a trip! But after reading Pucked, I really wish that Helena would have written Pucked Up like she wrote Pucked. I want to know more about Sunny and what Sunny thinks. I want inside Sunny’s head.

Pucked&PuckedUp#4Over all, I give Pucked and Pucked Up 5 BANGS because I was thoroughly entertained the entire time I was reading them. I love books that allow me to mentally depart from my life and these books are definitely a departure.  Also, the hints dropped in Pucked Up lead to a Randy/Lily ( AKA Landy!!) story (Now the third book in the series—out in a week—Pucked Over!) Read these books. Read this series. I promise you will pucking love it!

You weren’t alone. I’m just as much to blame. It was fun at the time. Nature makes me horny.

REVIEW: Captive Prince By C.S. Pacat

Captive Prince

As all of us Capti-Fans wait for the third and final book of the trilogy (Kings Rising, set to release Feb 2, 2016), I can’t help but swoon over C.S. Pacat and the fan-fucking-tastic story that started it all Captive Prince.

I have to be completely honest here, when I picked Captive Prince up off the shelf, at my local Barnes and Noble, I had no idea it was the phenomenon it is. The cover and the description on the back were the only two reasons that I bought it.  I was ignorant to the hype. Chica at the check-out counter was all,” Everyone’s going bananas  about this book! It’s on my list to read soon…” and I was all,”Oh! Ok. So it’s good huh?” She proceeded to tell me about all the amazing accolades attributed to Captive Prince so needless to say I was excited to get started.

First, we’re introduced to Damos AKA Damen. He’s a HOT ‘n’ sexy badass warrior prince, from a powerful kingdom, that’s recently experienced a most unfortunate twist of fate.

Next, we are introduced to Laurent, prince of an equally powerful, neighboring, kingdom—who has recently acquired a new slave…very unlike any other slave he has come in contact with before…Damos (Who is actually Damen who is the absolute sworn enemy of Laurent ( Damen killed his brother)—though Laurent wouldn’t know him if he saw him! Convenient right? Well…kind of.

And Laurent just so happens to be a young man of great power and beauty. Now you’re probably asking yourself, Beautiful? Did she really say beautiful. Yes! Beautiful. He’s pretty enough to make all the bitches jelly and he’s super smart too—a natural at strategic warfare.

So why do I love this story so much? I love this story because the plot is fucking awesome and each character is interesting and complex enough to keep me wondering what their motives are. I also love me a bromance so a little man-on-man action always peeks my interest. (FYI: There is very little sex action in this book but there’s plenty in the second. My review on Prince’s Gambit coming soon!)

The doors were pushed open.
Laurent was on the reclining couch, his feet tucked up under him in a relaxed, boyish posture. A book of scroll worked pages was open before him. There was a goblet on the small table beside him. At some point during the night, a servant must have spent the requisite half hour unlacing his austere outer garments, for Laurent wore only pants and a white shirt, the material so fine it did not require embroidery to declaim its expense. The room was lamp lit. Laurent’s body was a series of graceful lines under the shirts soft folds. Damen’s eyes lifted to the white column of his throat, and above that the golden hair, parting around the shell cup of an un-jeweled ear. The image was damascened, as beaten metal.
He was reading.
He looked up when the doors opened. And blinked, as if refocusing his blue eyes was difficult. Damen looked again at the goblet and recalled that he had seen Laurent once before with his senses blurred by alcohol.
It might have prolonged the illusion of an assignation a few seconds longer because Laurent drunk was surly capable of all kinds of mad demands and unpredictable behavior. Except that it was perfectly clear from the first moment he looked up that Laurent was not expecting company. And that Laurent did not recognize the guards either. Laurent carefully closed the book.
And Rose. “Couldn’t sleep?” said Laurent…

Can’t you just feel the pent-up sexual tension?!? I know I can. Alright, so Captive Prince is book one of a trilogy. And I must admit, I didn’t fully appreciate this book until I finished the second one (Prince’s Gambit). Also, because the third book isn’t out till next year, I decided to re-read Captive Prince. Needless to say, I loveeeeeed it even more the second time.

If you are tantalized by what I’ve said about Captive Prince here, read the book. Do it. You’ll love it!

I have QUESTIONS. Give me ANSWERS, Please.

Have you read Captive Prince? What did you think?

REVIEW: The Panty Whisperer by Sloane Howell

The Panty Whisperer Volume 1 from “The Panty Whisperer” Short Story Series

by Sloane Howell, published on Smashwords

Check him out: TwitterFacebookGoodreadsWebsite

Genres: Erotica, Fiction, Romance

FREE digital copy: Amazon, also on iTunes.

Full disclosure: I picked this purely on the title. I had to find out what or, better yet, who the panty whisperer is. The Panty Whisperer Volume 1 is the first story in a series of short stories by Sloane Howell all under the main title The Panty Whisperer. (How many more times can I say the words panty and whisperer?)

Because this is a short story, I can’t give away too much with this review so I’ll go as slow as I can. That way you can savour each and every word with your…Whoah! Slow down tigress! All in good time.

The story starts with Joel (main character) speaking candidly to the reader about how he’s the ultimate ladies man. I mean, he’s such a fucking stud that his friends call him…you guessed it! The panty whisperer. Joel’s a good looking cocky guy who’s DTF (down to fuck) anytime anywhere. You know,  a real manwhore. So how and where does Joel find his lucky conquests you ask? Well, I’ll let him tell you,

I’m a salesman. Accounting departments are full of women, dressed conservatively, presumed to live boring, mundane lives. Nothing could be further from the truth. These women are unique, sexual creatures, yearning for someone to take them to their breaking point and beyond.
Jessica Moore is one such woman, mid-thirties, bad marriage, basically raising the kids all on her own. She is sexy as hell, she just doesn’t know what she’s capable of. Will I give her everything she longs for? You’ll just have to read to find out…

After reading that little teaser, you may be asking yourself “Does Joel have any scruples about getting balls deep into a married woman who wants him?” Nope. He has a gift. He needs to share that gift. As he says, “Some men are good at business, some gifted at mathematics–I’m good at making women come, hard.”

I enjoyed this read. It’s fast and furious, but that’s pretty much what I’m looking for in an erotic short story. So needless to say, I was satisfied.

Have you read this story? What did you think?
